Standard Psychological Fees
You can engage in psychology treatment without any referral at all. Just book in and come along. However, if you would like to access rebates for some of your sessions, you will need to follow the steps outlined below for Medicare or Private Health Fund claiming.
Initial Session Cost:
- Initial Session for Child/Adolescent is a Parent Only Session (long consultation 80 mins) – $305 (Private Health Rebates Available)
- Initial Adult Session (50 mins) – $255 (Medicare Rebates Available)
Subsequent Session Cost:
- Subsequent Psychology Session (50 min) – $230 (Medicare Rebates Available)
- Concession Rate for Full Time University Students & Health Care Card Holders – $200 (Medicare Rebates Available)
PLEASE NOTE: For all Child/Adolescents under the age of 16, parents are first invited to attend a parent-only appointment. This parent-only session will gather all relevant background information, developmental history and parent treatment goals, and give you an opportunity to discuss the process of child/adolescent therapy before your child/adolescent commences treatment. This is a long consultation and does not require your child/adolescent to be present.
Shannyn is an approved Medicare Provider.
Medicare offers rebates of $89.65 per session on psychology sessions when you are referred by your GP, Psychiatrist or Paediatrician under a Medicare Mental Health Care Plan (MHCP).
Medicare has set up a Better Access to Mental Health Initiative which aims to improve the outcomes for individuals who have a mental health condition through better access to evidence-based treatment. Under this initiative Medicare rebates (for up to 10 sessions per calendar year) are available by visiting your GP, Paediatrician, or Psychiatrist and discussing with them your eligibility for this service. If you are eligible, you will be given a ‘Mental Health Care Plan’ referral to your treating psychologist.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, Medicare is also extending access to rebated sessions for eligible clients, for a further 10 sessions per calendar year. This is currently available to eligible clients until 31 Dec 2022. Speak to your GP or visit MBS Online for more up to date information regarding psychological services during the pandemic.
Please note – GPs prefer you book this as a double appointment and state that you would like to discuss getting a Mental Health Care Plan at the time you are making your booking. For child referrals, ask your GP clinic whether they would like you to bring your child to the appointment.
Please speak to our reception team at Shannyn Wilson Psychology to find out more.
